PUPILS TAKING A LEAD

Just some of the ways pupils are taking a lead

School council

Our School Council has been in place for a number of years and gives all pupils from Reception to Year 6 a chance to nominate themselves for a position.  Class elections are held every year so pupils that are interested in the role have the opportunity to put forward their election speeches and then classes vote for their candidate of choice. This gives the pupils an opportunity to experience a democratic process.  The School council aims to ensure that all children are given a voice through their chosen candidate where they can pass on their ideas, opinions and concerns at our monthly meetings.

OUR SCHOOL COUNCIL ACTION PLAN FOR THIS YEAR

  • To improve break and lunchtime in the school playground – to look at different activities available
  • To re-introduce the tidiest classroom reward
  • To look at range of  different extra curricular clubs across school.
  • To develop different roles within the school council.

Eco Commitee

As a school, we take the environment seriously particularly after learning about COP 26 this year.  The Eco committee members were elected as part of team who will work alongside the school council members throughout the year.  Being part of the Eco committee gives the children the chance to discuss how their actions as a citizen effect the environment around them and how our school impacts upon the environment too.

When we meet as a committee it gives the children to voice not only their concerns and opinions about local and global issues, but the concerns of their peers too.

OUR ECO COUNCIL ACTION PLAN FOR THIS YEAR

  • To encourage pupils to use the correct recycle bins available within the classroom for different products – plastic, paper and general waste.
  • To plant a range of different plants and trees within the school grounds
  • To reduce litter on the school grounds
  • To set up a nature club, to look at encouraging animals in to the school grounds and providing shelters for them.

    SOAR COUNCIL

We are a group of children from KS2 who have been elected by our peers to meet each week with Mrs Senior and Miss Marlborough to develop faith in our school. We are the pupil voice and are encouraged to share our views each week. Already we have voted to change the name of the group from Faith Council to SOAR Council which encompasses our school ethos and motto of SOAR.

Our role within school is to plan, prepare and deliver a Collective Worship each half term. Each worship spreads a message which links to each of our Christian Values. Already, we have written and delivered worship linked to Trust and Peace, which we all enjoyed.

Throughout the year we will help teachers to develop the teaching of RE through the monitoring of RE books and Big Books and being the pupil voice to help staff understand the learning taking place within school.

Our challenge next term is to work with Canon Sandra to review and update our school prayer in line with our new school vision.

    SPORTS COUNCIL

The Sports Council offers children the opportunity to raise and discuss their concerns regarding sport throughout our school. Our Sport Councilors are voted by their classes to represent their class, gathering ideas and voicing opinions. This year, we have discussed playground routines and how to engage more children in sport during these times. In addition, the Sports Council has discussed the extra-curricular offering, to make sure that what is on offer is exciting, challenging and engaging.
