RE has a central place within our curriculum and we aim to develop a religious and theological literacy so that pupils are able to engage with some of the big questions of meaning and purpose in life and develop an understanding of what followers of a religion believe and how those beliefs shape the lives of individuals, communities and wider society.

As a Voluntary Aided School within the Diocese of Leeds, the Governors have agreed to implement the scheme Understanding Christianity. This supports the teaching of Christianity, rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ. We aim to provide a wide range of opportunities for learners to understand and to make links between the beliefs, practices and value systems of the range of faiths and world views studied.

We celebrate our place within God’s loving family, showing respect for ourselves, others and the world around us. We are a safe, supportive community of inspired, resilient life-long learners, with a spirit of curiosity, where every individual is provided with the opportunity to flourish and achieve in our ever-changing world. Our vision

We use a creative approach as much as possible in RE and draw on Art, Drama and Music to support our teaching. Time is also devoted to analyse in more depth some religious texts and opportunities are provided for pupils to reflect on their own experiences and to develop their own understanding. Collective Worship is also an integral part of our practice within Baildon. We choose a Christian Value as a basis for our work each term and also use a mix of themes linked to the liturgical year, Religious Feasts and Festivals and social and moral issues as a basis for our worship.

We are delighted that Canon Sandra leads worship in school at least once a term and also leads Communion for staff and pupils once a term. Links to our current Collective Worship themes can be found below.
